I was in desperate need of a base coat that I felt helped lock on the polish and so far I feel like this may be the winner. I never realized how important a base coat is- this one is thick and I feel like my mani lasted a solid 8 maybe 9 days with this vs chipping off after 2 or 3.
I thoroughly researched nail products, looking for something healthy and beautiful after getting a one-time gel manicure for my daughter's wedding last Fall that caused some damage. Londontown kept coming up, so I first purchased the Kur Grip Lock Base Coat, the Gel Genius Top Coat and the Illuminating Nail Concealer. I was religious about using the products, but kept noticing my nails were peeling and breaking. Unlike most users, the base would literally pop up within 24-48 hours and the three coats (base, concealer and top coat) would just peel off and looked like they were taking a layer of nail with them. I finally stopped using for a couple of months and cut them constantly until they finally grew out. Once I got back to healthy nails, I started using the Londontown products again and the same issue occurred. Sadly, I had purchased additional polishes around Christmas and I now have a very expensive stash of unusable product. I did see this in a few other reviews after digging deep, so just beware that it is sadly not for everyone.

Nice base coat
Oh dear. After poorly reviewing Jane Austen creme polish, Londontown so very kindly reached out to me and offered to replace the product, and they shipped me this Grip Lock Base coat gratis in hopes that it would fix the adherence issues I was having with Jane Austen. Sadly, that was not the case. While I can absolutely praise Londontown's customer service to the rafters, this base coat is undoubtedly the WORST THING I have tried of their lineup. Believe the naysayers on this one.
Pros: it DOES actually prevent chipping. There is a spongy quality to it, that makes the polish you use over it adhere very well to the base coat, and it remains a little jelly-like, so it "bounces" instead of chips. It's less brittle than other base coats. So, the IDEA is very nice, I hope they can improve on it because there's probably something there...just not quite yet.
Cons: It peels right off the nail within 48 hours, often less. I said before that it adheres well to the polish, and that's absolutely true, but the grip lock feature is descriptive of its hold on the polish, NOT YOUR NAIL. This peels off like a stick-on, (with zero damage to the nail plate, so I guess that's a plus...) ever so quickly no matter what you do.
I have given this so many tries, in so many variations, HOPING it would be a beautiful solution. Nope. For reference, I do not shower/bathe/do dishes with bare hands on manicure days, I file with a glass file, buffer block if needed, I use a cuticle remover, prep with…
Thank you for sharing such a detailed review, we truly appreciate the time and care you put into this. I understand how disappointing it can feel when a product doesn’t perform as expected, especially after giving it multiple tries and having a thoughtful routine in place. Our team will be reaching out shortly to help make this right.
